House of Opium is a small private museum located in Chiang Rai, showcasing tools and equipment used for opium consumption in the past. The exhibits cover the history of the Golden Triangle, opium cultivation, and the process of opium consumption. The lower floor of the museum also serves as a souvenir shop.
Founded by Khun Phatcharee Srimathayakun, a Chiang Rai native with a connection to the Golden Triangle, the museum originated from a desire to preserve old items that were being sold in her souvenir shop. The name “House of Opium” was given by Khun Rong Wongsawan, a national artist and writer.
