Phu Chi Fa, Chiang Rai: Serene Nature and Exciting Way of Life Await

Phu Chi Fa, Chiang Rai, is one of the top destinations in Thailand to witness the stunning sea of mist. When you look towards the north of Thailand, you will encounter a popular way of life different from the cities or local areas. On the high peaks of the Himalayan mountains, you will find the breathtaking beauty and remarkable nature of “Phu Chi Fa.” It is one of the must-visit and impressive tourist attractions in the northern region of Thailand.

Phu Chi Fa is a natural conservation area located in Chiang Rai province, covering an area of over 120,000 acres. It encompasses four districts of Chiang Rai, including Thoeng, Wiang Kaen, Khun Tan, and Chiang Khong. Starting from a medium sea level, it gradually reaches its highest peak at nearly 1,600 meters above sea level. Here, you will experience a rich and picturesque environment with magnificent large mountains and beautiful waterfalls. Phu Chi Fa is the home to an interesting community and local culture that you can closely experience.

The journey to Phu Chi Fa is an exciting and adventurous one. You will need to drive or ride a motorcycle through the forests of Doi Hua Lamphong, following the established routes. It takes approximately 2-3 hours to reach the starting point of the trail to enter Phu Chi Fa, Chiang Rai.

For camping, there are two areas available. The first one is near the entrance of the park, and the other is on the opposite side of the park. Personally, I recommend finding a camping spot on the lower side or renting a tent near the shops. It’s better to wake up early and enjoy the view before sunrise. Electricity and ordered beer are available. I made the mistake of bringing my own cooler with ice and buying a whole case of beer, even though the prices up there are not much different. It was hilarious!

Once you arrive, you will be able to experience the pure air and leisurely wander through the serene and tranquil mountainside. Besides, there are various activities to choose from, such as hiking, forest walks, and tracing the paths of the abundant and diverse trees. You can also visit the local community and immerse yourself in the local culture.

And then, we conquer the morning of a new day with the sea of mist at Phu Chi Fa, one of the top spots to admire the sea of mist in Thailand. Even though there might be a slight hangover, we managed to keep ourselves together. With a lot of people around, it can be a bit chaotic, but it’s all part of the experience. 555 (Thai expression for laughter) 🙂

How to get to Phu Chi Fa:

By car: From the city of Chiang Rai to Phu Chi Fa, it is approximately 85 kilometers, and the journey takes about 2 hours. You can rent a car or take local transportation to various tourist attractions in Chiang Rai according to your convenience.

Best Time to Visit:

During the winter season, around November to February.
